Vocational Rehabilitation help for CDL training
Updated October 2026
Every state has a Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agency that helps people with disabilities prepare for and find work.
How it can help
If driving is a realistic job goal for you, VR may help pay for training and related costs as part of your plan.
Medical standards
Commercial drivers must pass a DOT medical exam. Talk with your doctor and VR counselor early about whether you can meet the standards, and about exemptions that exist for some conditions.
Getting started
Contact your state VR agency, explain your goal, and ask about the steps to build an employment plan that includes CDL training.
