CDL grants and free CDL training in Florida
Updated October 2026
Here are the main ways people in Florida pay for CDL training, and where to start for each one.
1. Workforce training funds (WIOA)
Contact an American Job Center in Florida and ask about WIOA training funds for CDL training. Your training must be on Florida's Eligible Training Provider List. Step-by-step WIOA guide.
2. Veterans' benefits
Use the VA's GI Bill Comparison Tool to find VA-approved CDL programs, and ask your state licensing agency about the military skills test waiver. GI Bill guide.
3. Workforce Pell Grants
New in 2026. Ask community colleges near you whether their CDL program is approved, and fill out the FAFSA. Workforce Pell guide.
4. Company-sponsored training and apprenticeships
Many carriers hiring in your area train new drivers for free in exchange for a work commitment. How sponsored training works.
5. Scholarships and other help
Check with schools, your state trucking association, SNAP or TANF programs, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Scholarship guide.
